New Romancing the Gothic Online Course: Radcliffe at 200

Sign up now and get your tickets here

This year, we’re celebrating 200 years since the publication of Ann Radcliffe’s final (posthumous) works.

This interactive course on the works of Gothic enchantress Ann Radcliffe will run for 7 sessions, once a month at 7pm British time on the fourth Thursday of the month.

The classes are all online (zoom) and last 2 hours.

Over the course, we will read our way through Ann Radcliffe’s works. They are all available for free or in edited editions.

Each month will focus on a different novel. Each class will include a talk and a discussion and I will provide resources and voluntary creative tasks for those wanting to dive deeper into Radcliffe’s work and her Gothic stylings. This class is an opportunity to explore the work of one of the most important and influential early Gothic writers. We’ll investigate how Radcliffe’s writing changed and how she uses the Gothic to engage with contemporary politics, theology, society and more. We’ll go beyond the assumptions and stereotypes and dig deep into her work, exploring different themes and contexts each month.

Come and immerse yourself in a world of high adventure, thrills, spills, mysteries and more!

This started off as a story blog to share the little fictions that I like to write but it's turned into something a bit more Goth! I'm Dr Sam Hirst and I research the Gothic, theology and romance and at the moment I'm doing free Gothic classes online! We also have readalongs, watchalongs and reading groups. And I post fun little Gothic bits when I have the chance. Find me on twitter @RomGothSam
