November Programme

This November’s theme is ‘anything goes!’ We’re looking at alternative forms of the Gothic, including podcasts, video games, non-fiction and some zombie movies for good measure. Here’s what you can look forward to (with links to sign up!) A reminder that all our talks are free to access but donations are very much appreciated. It helps keep us going and allows me to pay the speakers. You can donate here or here. Go to our YouTube channel to catch previous talks.

Saturday 5th November – Making Eye Contact: Visualising the Magnus Archives in Fan Art

We are joined by Maria Juko to talk about the hit horror podcast series The Magnus Archives. If you haven’t watched it, you can find it all online. Get started with the first episode, a weirdly haunting and decidedly eerie tale of a late night encounter.

You can catch the talk at 10am and 7pm GMT (click on the times to find more information about the talk and to book your free ticket)

Sunday 13th November – Non-Fiction Gothic: Reading about ghosts and vampires in the British 60s and 70s

We are joined by Dr Tim Jones to talk non-fiction writing on the occult and supernatural in the 60s and 70s.

You can catch the talk at 10am and 7pm GMT (click on the times to find more information about the talk and to book your free ticket)

Saturday 19th November – The EcoGothic Legacy of Doomed Voyages in Video Games

We’re joined today by Morgan Pinder for another excellent talk on Video Games. This time we’ll be exploring doomed voyages of many varieties in video games.

You can catch the talk at 10am and 7pm (click on the times to find more information about the talk and to book your free ticket)

Sunday 27th November – Stripping Spaces and Power Dynamics in Zombie Movies

Today, we’re joined by Leigh Ash to look at a very particular subgenre of the zombie movie!

You can catch the talk at 10am and 7pm (click on the times to find more information about the talk and to book your free ticket)

This started off as a story blog to share the little fictions that I like to write but it's turned into something a bit more Goth! I'm Dr Sam Hirst and I research the Gothic, theology and romance and at the moment I'm doing free Gothic classes online! We also have readalongs, watchalongs and reading groups. And I post fun little Gothic bits when I have the chance. Find me on twitter @RomGothSam
